Cylinder beads are not round seed beads

Delicas, and the equivalent Toho Treasures and Aikos, are cut as short tubes rather than tumbled into doughnuts. Two things follow. They are far more uniform, so a woven piece has straight edges and even tension without culling odd beads out of the batch. And they sit flatter against each other, which makes the finished fabric more like cloth and less like beadwork. Both are why they dominate detailed pictorial designs where a round bead would blur the image.

The proportion is close to square but not square

An 11/0 Delica is about 1.6 mm across, and sources put the height between roughly 1.3 and 1.5 mm, so the cell is a little wider than it is tall. That is a milder difference than round seed beads, which is what tempts people onto plain square paper. On a small motif you would never notice. On a full cuff or a portrait panel the accumulated difference is obvious, and it always shows up the same way: the design comes out shorter and wider than the chart.

Sizes, and why 11/0 is the default

Delicas come in 15/0, 11/0, 10/0 and 8/0, and 11/0 is the workhorse: fine enough for detail, large enough to thread without magnification, and by far the best served for colors. If you are working 15/0 the proportion shifts slightly, so swatch rather than assume. Whatever size you settle on, buy enough of each color at the start, because dye lots vary and a color change halfway across a panel is permanent.

Printing it accurately

This only measures correctly if your printer doesn't rescale the page. In the print dialog set Scale: 100%, not "Fit to page" or "Shrink oversized pages". If you're not sure it worked, print the calibration page, measure the ruler on it with a real ruler, and it will tell you exactly what your printer is doing to the page.
