Offset rows are not optional

In peyote and brick stitch, each bead sits in the gap between the two beads of the previous row. Charting that on a square grid gives a pattern that will not match what comes off the needle: diagonals step wrongly and curves distort. A proper bead chart reproduces the real geometry, which is what this does.

Bead shape and gauge

Seed beads are not square. A Delica is roughly 1.6 mm wide and 1.3 mm tall, so a row of them is shorter than it is wide — much like knit stitches. The gauge control sets cell height as a fraction of width; around 0.8 suits Delicas, while rounder seed beads sit closer to 0.9. Matching it means your charted design comes out the proportions you drew.

Square stitch and loom work

Square stitch and loom beading do stack beads directly above one another, so for those turn the offset off and you get an aligned grid — still with the rectangular cell shape, which is the part most free bead paper gets wrong.

Printing it accurately

This only measures correctly if your printer doesn't rescale the page. In the print dialog set Scale: 100% — not "Fit to page" or "Shrink oversized pages". If you're not sure it worked, print the calibration page, measure the ruler on it with a real ruler, and it will tell you exactly what your printer is doing to the page.
